Micro-weddings: a real wedding without the whole production

Some couples simply want to be married. Others want the full wedding experience with a beautifully written ceremony, microphones, music, a large guest list and all the moving parts.
But there’s a whole lot of space between those two options.
Perhaps you want to stand in front of the people who matter most, say I do, perhaps personal vows, exchange rings and have a moment that genuinely feels like your wedding. You just don’t want to turn it into a major production or spend the equivalent of a house deposit making it happen.
That’s precisely why I created I Do to the Micro: a short, meaningful ceremony for couples planning micro-weddings, small weddings and relaxed celebrations at home.
What is a micro-wedding?
The term gets used in a few different ways, but I generally think of a micro-wedding as a genuine wedding celebration shared with a very small group of your favourite people.
It’s more than meeting a celebrant around the kitchen table to complete the legal requirements. There can be an entrance, “I dos”, personal vows, rings, cheering, happy tears and photographs afterwards.
It’s still a wedding.
It just doesn’t need 80 guests, six attendants, elaborate styling, a three-course dinner or an excel spreadsheet to work out the seating plan.
For I Do to the Micro, guest numbers are capped at 25 adults, with any children welcome as well. That keeps the ceremony intimate and means everyone standing around you is someone you genuinely wanted there.

Small weddings don’t have to feel less special
There’s a persistent idea that the size and cost of a wedding determine how important it is. They don’t.
Two people holding hands and making promises in front of their closest family and friends will always look and feel like they’re getting married. It’s the connection, the words and the people surrounding you that create the moment not the number of chairs or how many plastic flowers are hanging from an archway.
I Do to the Micro includes a short but meaningful ceremony, your personal vows (if you want to) and a ring exchange. You’ll complete a simple questionnaire so I can tune into your personalities and the kind of feeling you want to create.
There won’t be a long retelling of your entire relationship from the first message to the proposal. Everyone at a micro-wedding generally knows your story anyway. But the ceremony will still feel warm, personal and recognisably yours.
Where can we have a Brisbane micro-wedding?
This package was created for low-key weddings in backyards and on private properties.
You might get married under the patio before everyone sits down to a barbecue. You could borrow a family member’s garden, hold the ceremony on an acreage property or simply gather everyone in the backyard before heading to the local club for lunch.
A quiet park ceremony may also work when you’re keeping things genuinely simple. You need a council permit to set up chairs and use a PA, but that’s not what this package is about.
What this package isn’t designed for is a traditional wedding venue. Once a venue, larger guest list, amplified music, special rituals or more elaborate ceremony plans become involved, you’ll generally need the flexibility of my full-service package.

What is deliberately left out of this small wedding package?
There are no microphones or ceremony music provided. With only your closest people gathered around, we shouldn’t need amplification. A friend playing something as you arrive is absolutely fine, though.
The ceremony isn’t written entirely from scratch, and it doesn’t include a detailed telling of your love story.
Those things haven’t been removed to make your wedding feel cheap. They’ve been deliberately left out because not every couple needs them. Especially if the handful of people gathered already know the hows and wheres of your relationship.
Some of my favourite weddings have been the smallest ones. When the pressure to impress everyone disappears, people relax. You can be present, enjoy the moment and celebrate in a way that feels human rather than performative.
That is the whole point of a micro-wedding.

Is I Do to the Micro right for you?
This package may be your Goldilocks option when legals only feels too bare, but a full-scale wedding feels like too much.
You still want a real wedding ceremony. How it feels still matters; you’re simply choosing what matters most and leaving out everything that doesn’t.
Head over to my home page to compare the three different ways we can get you married. When I Do to the Micro sounds just right, send me your details and let’s have a chat about your small wedding plans.
